                          Born on the High Plains of Texas in the early 1900's, Perryton is the gateway to Texas for travel and business. Perryton has natural beauty, with wide open spaces and clean clear air. We are home to a fascinating history, from archaeological discoveries to the historical settling of an entire city at Perryton's railroad. Businesses in Ochiltree County thrive due to the excellent workforce and low business costs. There is room to expand and there are people ready to help you succeed.

Perryton is the northernmost county seat in Texas, located in beautiful Ochiltree County "Wheatheart of the Nation" a title held since 1947 when we were the leading wheat producing county in the nation.

Perryton is hometown of Hank the Cowdog, the lovable character in the series of books by award winning Perryton author, John R. Erickson, and the hometown of Mike Hargrove, Manager of the Seattle Mariners.  Perryton is also the hometown of Angela Arenivar, finalist in the 1999 Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee who starred as herself in the Oscar nominated documentary Spellbound.

Perryton recently completed a renovation of its Main Street, home to a thriving retail and service sector.  In 2003 Perryton won the TexasYes! Hardworking Rural Community Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture.  Perryton was selected as one of five Shining Stars in 2006, as well as receiving its second Hardworking Rural Community Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture.  


Ochiltree County had the highest percentage of votes in the U.S. for President George W. Bush in the November 2, 2004 general election.


Perryton's Wright Elementary recently won the prestigious 2004 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools Award.

Construction is complete on the new Frank Phillips College Allen Campus at 24th & Jefferson.  FPC Allen Campus is a comprehensive community college offering vocational, technical and continuing education programs as well as freshman and sophomore courses in the arts and sciences.

Perryton is the starting point for the Annual Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway Motorcycle Run.   

Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Perryton adopted Waveland as its Sister City, sending relief supplies to the small Gulf Coast community that had been hardest hit by Katrina.
