The author of a how-to book on memoir writing that has sold more than 15,000 copies world wide will be in Perryton Wed., Feb. 1, 2012 from 10 to 12 Noon at the Perry Memorial Public Library, 22 SE 5th Ave., Perryton, Texas  to present a workshop in Writing Family and Personal History.

Charley Kempthorne,  based in Kansas,  wrote  For All Time: A Complete Guide to Writing Your Family History  to encourage and assist people--especially seniors--to write about their lives.  “Most people know how to write,” he says. “But they need to be encouraged to do it. There’s no better way than to start with a group of friends and neighbors.  I come along more as coach than teacher, and sometimes all I have to do is be a cheerleader.”   This book has been in the Perry Memorial Library for some years.

Charley and his wife, June, also publish a monthly magazine, LifeStory, and he has just finished a new book, Narrative Journaling: 28 Days to Writing your Life Story.   Since 1991 they have traveled North America doing workshops in writing family history.  For more information and an excerpt from these books, go online to www.thelifestoryinstitute.com
The two hour workshop will give lots of tips on story writing.  Along the way members will do some  writing themselves and volunteers in the group will read what they’ve just written.  Finally there will be a discussion of how to get the writing done, how to make it easy and fun, and what to do with the writing to get it in the hands of your family and friends.
